The V&A Waterfront, Cape Town’s oldest working harbour and iconic retail, leisure and hospitality destination, will be hosting the 2010 V&A Waterfront Wine Affair. This well loved wine and food festival is the only event of its kind which takes place right at the waters' edge, offering spectacular views and the enjoyment of top Western Cape wineries and V&A Waterfront restaurants.
Participating wine estates will be represented and supported by a uniquely tailored menu from a variety of the award-winning V&A Waterfront restaurants. Some of the estates exhibiting at this year’s festival include, amongst others, Middelvlei, Groot Constantia, De Krans Wine Cellar, La Bri and Arra Vineyards.
The Waterfront Lookout, situated on the roof of the Breakwater Parking Garage is the perfect host venue for the V&A Waterfront Wine Affair, overlooking the ocean, with breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the Cape Town Stadium.
“A supporter of all things local, the V&A Waterfront’s Wine Affair is an opportunity for cosmopolitan food enthusiasts and wine lovers to mingle with some of Cape Town’s most established wine makers and chefs right in the hub of the city bowl. This popular event ear-marks the beginning of must-go autumn gatherings and celebrates South African heritage and cuisine – this year there’s even a traditional South African braai for visitors to enjoy fresh seafood in the heart of Cape Town’s iconic working harbour,” says Annemie Liebenberg, the V&A Waterfront’s Manager of Tourism, Customer Service and Communication.
With so much to sip and sample, visitors to the festival will certainly not be disappointed, especially as the organisers have introduced some new elements to the show. Wine@Sea offers visitors a unique food and wine pairing experience on board the Sea Princess, located at the Waterfront, whereby participating wineries and restaurants will present carefully paired wines and canapés. These experiences, available to the public on the Tuesday Wednesday Thursday, will ‘set sail’ at 15h30 and last no longer than an hour. Tickets cost R300 per person and include a cruise, the food and wine tasting, as well as entry to the festival. To avoid disappointment booking is essential, as seating is limited. Bookings close on Friday, 30 April, and tickets can be purchased directly from Computicket. In addition the organisers have the pleasure of introducing a not-to-be-missed Tasting Theatre hosted by the Cape Wine Academy. The academy will be presenting two themed tastings per night, promising to keep their audience entertained and educated at the same time. Be sure not to miss out, as you may discover a thing or two about Bootylicious Bubbles or Sizzling Shiraz’s? There is no cost to attend, but as seating is limited, sessions will be booked on a first-come-first-served basis.
With so much on the menu, be sure not to miss out on, what promises to become one of Cape Town’s premier lifestyle events.
